Project Info

Meridian Water Station, 2019.

Meridian Water is a £6billion, 80-hectare regeneration project in the London Borough of Enfield. Phase 1 of the Strategic Infrastructure Works is the new Meridian Water station and associated public realm.
Conceptually, the project begins the process of recovering the site for ecology and for people, looking forward to future development and residential communities while marking industrial heritage. Operationally, the project enables access to the new railway station while defining a high quality, safe and distinctive experience for residents and visitors, integrating pedestrian and cycle access routes, a temporary square, and more permanent public realm.

MadeAt BloQs’ fabrication arm – in collaboration with Periscope Architects, was appointed by Volker Fitzpatrick to design, fabricate and install a cycle shelter and a series of ecological sculptures by the station. The combination of off-the-shelf products (i.e. the use of converted shipping containers as shells for the cycle shelter structures) with locally manufactured elements to make low-cost, high-impact spaces and the reference to the local industrial history formed the main principles of the project’s development.

Role

SterkStudio has been appointed by MadeAt BloQs to develop and deliver the first module of the cycle shelters and the series of the ecological timber sculptures. We developed the designs following the concept ideas provided by Periscope, fabricated the structures and delivered them onsite ready to install, by completion of the Meridian Water Station groundworks.
